March 24th

I put on the calendar a reminder that will last forever that March 24th of every year is a day to take off. Not only is it your “gotcha” day and when I feel in love with you, but also the day I had to say goodbye for now. I have no idea why you stayed with me exactly 6 years, but as luck would have it, you did. Was that by design, little one?

I miss you terribly.

Storytime

Oh, Emily, how I treasure this original short story written about us by our best human friend, Lisa.  Every time I read it I well up. How I wish for this happy ending in a parallel universe with you, my little angel!

Dear Danielle,

The night before Emily passed away I was thinking about the two of you.   A story began to form in my tired mind and I cried myself to sleep.   Here’s what I came up with.  Any resemblance to actual beings is most definitely intentional.
ELLA & AMELIA
Once upon a time, there was a lovely maiden named Ella that lived in a cottage in the woods.  She had longed for an animal companion and one night her wish came true.  During a terrible storm she heard meows from outside and saw a tiny black kitten.  She scooped up the tiny creature in her arms and took it inside her home.  She dried it off, placed it by the fireplace to warm it and gave it some food.  Ella and the kitten formed a loving bond and she named her Amelia. Over time, Ella began to notice that Amelia wasn’t doing well.  She took her to every magic healer in the kingdom, but none of them were able to help.  She was beside herself with the thought of losing her beloved friend.   One night, Ella gathered Amelia in her arms and took her into bed.  She cried herself to sleep and her tears fell onto Amelia.  In the morning, Ella awoke to find Amelia was no longer in her arms.  Before she reached a full panic, she heard a noise on the floor. Ella peaked over the edge of the bed and saw a healthy looking Amelia excitedly playing with a ball of yarn.  Ella leapt out of bed, took Amelia in her arms and danced with her around the room.  Amelia began to purr and the two of them lived happily ever after.
I wanted you both to have the happy ending I feel that you deserved.  I hope you liked the story.
Love,
Lisa
